A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, at Kinsley Mortuary. Burial followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids.

Nancy was born on November 12, 1941, in Marysville, Kansas, to Merle and Violet (Graham) Grauer. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1959. Following graduation, she moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she worked as a secretary for an insurance company. It was there that she met her future husband, Darel Whitebread. The couple was united in marriage on April 15, 1961, in Miami, Oklahoma.

Because of Darel’s work as a truck driver, the family lived in several communities over the years. They operated a restaurant in Gaylord, Kansas, and later lived in Portis before moving to Downs, Kansas, where they purchased and operated Nancy’s parents’ restaurant. After a brief return to Wichita, they settled in Marysville in 1979 when Darel accepted a position as a truck driver with Landoll Corporation.

Nancy worked in a variety of roles throughout her life, including at the Marysville Sale Barn Café, JCPenney, and as a secretary for the City of Marysville. She was known for her warm hospitality and exceptional cooking. Her cinnamon rolls, homemade bread, pies, and family-favorite phildy noodles were enjoyed by generations of family and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Darel G. Whitebread, on December 1, 2017; grandson, Josh Sparks; sisters, Shirley Wilson and Sherry Munce; and brother, Jeff Grauer.

She is survived by her children, Fred Whitebread (Pat) of Seward, Nebraska, Joni McClellan (Bill) of Marysville, Mike Whitebread (April) of Baker City, Oregon, and Jill Elsinger (Chuck) of Marysville; ten grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and sisters, DeeDee Krotzinger of Superior, Nebraska, and Jan Parker of Frisco, Texas.

A memorial fund has been established, and its designation will be announced at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
