Penelope Dawn Chappell, age 13, of Marysville, Kansas, passed away on June 18, 2026, at her home.
A visitation was held on Wednesday, June 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.
Penelope was born on July 6, 2012, in Topeka, Kansas, to Justin Don and Donna Jean (Ungerer) Chappell. In 2014, the family moved to Marysville, where she attended Marysville Public Schools. She recently completed the eighth grade and was looking forward to beginning her freshman year at Marysville High School this fall.
During her junior high years, Penelope was active in Scholar Bowl, junior high band, and M-Act. She especially enjoyed participating in theater and recently portrayed the Duchess in the production of Alice in Wonderland. Creative and expressive, Penelope loved music, particularly songs with deep bass tones and Korean pop. She also enjoyed drawing, practicing calligraphy, experimenting with makeup and fingernails, and sharing her enthusiasm for the Buffalo Bills with her father.
Above all, Penelope had a caring heart. She was thoughtful, compassionate, and always willing to encourage others. She had a special way of making people feel valued and accepted, and her kindness touched the lives of many classmates, teachers, friends, and family members.
She is survived by her loving parents, Justin and Donna (Ungerer) Chappell; her brother, Brychan Henderson Brown; her sister, Caralea Henderson Brown; her grandparents, Terry and Delores Ungerer and Debra K. Chappell; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, classmates, and friends who will cherish her memory.
