Phyllis Totten, 88, Marysville, died Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Colonial Oaks Hospice Care in Spring Hill, KS.
Visitation was from 1 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, March 20 at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 21 at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Marysville. Pastor Julie Shields and Gary Phillips officiated. The musicians were Deb Bruna, Wayne Kruse and Jillian Fairchild. Music included, "Precious Lord Take My Hand", "Great is Thy Faithfulness", "The Lord's Prayer" and "Amazing Grace."
The pallbearers were Dereck Totten, Richard Fairchild, Hunter Offutt, Jake Edwards, Ted Nemec and Randy Griswold.
Burial was in Marysville City Cemetery.
Phyllis was born on February 6, 1936, in Marysville to Herman and Agnes (Burger) Moehlenstedt. She is a graduate of Marysville High School. On July 25, 1954, she was united in marriage to Douglas Totten. This union was blessed with two children, David and Diane.
Phyllis worked for ArEx Drug Store, JC Penney’s, and helped her husband on the farm. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, where she served as church organist for sixty years, playing for services, funerals and weddings.
She was a lifelong resident of Marysville but spent two years in Colorado Springs and Germany with her husband, while he served in the Army. Phyllis enjoyed helping children in the 4-H club, gardening and playing piano and organ. In grade school she participated in the Marshall County Spelling Bee and in high school the Rhythmic Swim Team. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Friendship Club and Bridge Club.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Douglas; and grandson, Beckett Totten.
Survivors include son, David (Kathy) Totten, Marysville; daughter, Diane (Gary) Offutt, Olathe; four grandchildren, Dereck (Kysha) Totten, Dana (Richard) Fairchild, Hunter (Madison) Offutt and Heather (Jake) Edwards; and five great grandchildren, Turner and Finnick Totten and Jillian and Richard Fairchild, Jr.
A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in the care of Kinsley Mortuary.
