Rev. Jerome E. “Jack” Ulmer, 87, Marysville, died Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville.
Visitation was from noon until 9 p.m., Friday, October 20, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 21, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Marysville and Rev. Julie Shields officiated. Deb Bruna played the organ.
The pallbearers were April Verser, Amber Verser, Jonathan Ulmer, Jason Schell, Randy Griswold and Doug Griswold.
Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery.
Jack was born January 29, 1936, in Fullerton, ND, to Edwin and Ottillia (Weber) Ulmer. In 1954, he graduated from Fullerton High School. Following graduation he attended Lakeland Collage in Sheboygan, WI and then Mission House Seminary, graduating from the seminary in 1961.
On August 18, 1957, he was united in marriage to Elsie Jackson at Evangelical and Reformed Church in Fullerton, ND. This marriage was blessed with 66 years of marriage bliss.
Jerome was called as a pastor to the Evangelical United Church of Christ in August of 1961. He served for 37 ½ years then they moved to Tonganoxie, where he served for 2 ½ years. Jerome never discussed his meetings with people who called on him for help, emotionally, socially or spiritually, regardless of creed and color. They moved back to Marysville and Jack was diagnosed with lung issues and was treated by the wonderful Marysville doctors. With the lung issue resolved, Jerome and Elsie enjoyed walking up to 2 miles a day when weather permitted.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and sister, Joyce Wagner.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie; daughter, Myra Verser, Loveland, CO; son, David (Glynis) Ulmer, Hampton, VA; foster son, John (Caryl) Schell, Centralia, KS; granddaughters, April Verser, Amber Verser; grandson, Jonathan Ulmer; three foster grandchildren and nine foster great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville.
