January 10, 1926 — August 15, 2022

Robert James “Bob” Ryan, 96, Marysville, passed away peacefully Monday, August 15, 2022 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation was held Friday, August 19 from noon until 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family greeted friends from 4 to 6 p.m. A vigil service was held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, August 20 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and the funeral service followed at 10 a.m. Burial was in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery. Bob was born in Frankfort to Thomas and Alberta (Rombeck) Ryan on January 10, 1926. In 1944, he graduated from Frankfort High School, where he lettered in sports and received many medals in track. He participated in football, basketball and ran hurdles. On February 22, 1944, he was united in marriage to Gladys Mathews at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort. To this union they were blessed with three sons, Richard, Charles and Douglas. Shortly thereafter, he entered the U.S. Army Company A 121st Infantry Regiment. Bob was injured in the Battle of the Bulge at Cologne, Germany and returned home from the war with a Purple Heart. After his military service, he returned to Frankfort and worked as the city clerk. He later ran for county clerk in 1957 and was elected. At that time the family moved to Marysville. After the county clerk job he was hired by the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in which he retired from in 1989. Bob enjoyed flying. He took lessons at the age of twenty and continued to fly up to the age of seventy-five. He would take anyone for a ride and always enjoyed time in the air. He owned several planes but his favorite was his Yellow Piper Cherokee 180. Along with flying, his other passion was watching his grandchildren play sports. The grandkids always knew he would be there cheering them on with Grandma Gladys. They missed very few activities over the years. Bob was a lifetime member of the Annunciation Catholic Church, where he was baptized, confirmed and married the love of his life. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the Veteran of the Foreign Wars. He served as commander of the American Legion Post #163 in 1980. Bob also served as commander of the DAV in Marysville. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Gladys, brother-in-law, Albert and sister-in-law, Jannie.
