Robert Keith Thompson, 77, of Marysville, Kansas, died Wednesday, August 6, 2026 at Bryan West in Lincoln, Nebraska.
A service was held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 14th the American Legion Post in Marysville. Pastor Marilyn Sweet and Gary Phillips officiated and many friends shared their stories. Burial followed in the Marysville City Cemetery.
Bob was born in Marysville on November 19, 1948, to Tyrus and Maxine (Slupianek) Thompson. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1966, attended college briefly, and then joined his parents at Thompson Lumber where he helped build many of the homes in Marysville. He would later co-own Thompson Lumber with his sister Karen before selling it to Crome Lumber and happily retiring.
Bob was happiest with his hands busy and the outdoors in front of him. He was a skilled woodworker, building everything from large furniture, to bird houses, frames, toys, and much more. He enjoyed hunting and trap shooting, and had a passion for sprint cars and open-wheel dirt track racing. He was a devoted Kansas University basketball fan, and loved cruising backroads in his Jeep. Of all his passions, the people and the memories meant the most.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Karen Dick; and nephew, Jerry Dick.
Survivors include nephew, Kelley Dick; great nieces and nephews Rachell Goodwin, Daniel Dick, Jamie Dick and Jesse Dick.
A memorial fund is established to the Blue River Rail Trail. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
