Sandra L. Torrey

Sandra L. Torrey, 75, of Axtell, KS, died Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at her home. Visitation was Sunday, September 8 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Axtell.  Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 9, at St. Michael's Catholic Church.  Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated.  Kathy Buessing played the organ while the choir sang "In the Garden", "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee" and "On Eagles Wings". The pallbearers were Andy Torrey, John Price, Robert Torrey and Hunter Koch. Burial was in the church cemetery. Sandra was born on January 4, 1944 at Seneca, KS, daughter of Margaret Lynn Spangler.  She graduated from Axtell High School and completed a few years of college at Kansas State University.  She and Raymond G. Torrey married on September 11, 1965.  Sandra spent several years in Salt Lake City, Utah where she worked as an office manager at Unique Plastering.  After retiring, she moved back to Axtell to be closer to family. Sandra enjoyed cooking, traveling, camping, putting together puzzles and crocheting.  She loved trips to the nail salon as well as watching and attending NASCAR races. Survivors include two daughters, Janet Koch, Axtell, KS, Debbie (John) Price, Marysville, KS; one sister, Sharon (Doug) Bergmann, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Ashley Blonquist and Hunter Koch. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Spangler; husband, Ray Torrey; and infant daughter, Pamela Joy Torrey.
