Scott Ray Griswold

Scott R. Griswold, age 65, of Marysville, Kansas, passed away on August 13, 2026, at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville.

Visitation was from Noon until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 20, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.  The family was present from 5 to 7 p.m. to receive friends.

The funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 21, at Immanuel Lutheran (Hermansberg) Church, north of Bremen.  Pastor Albert James Bader officiated.  The organist was Bev Crome.  Hymns included "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", "How Great Thou Art", and "Abide with Me."

The pallbearers were Allen Friedrichs, Brian Friedrichs, Clint Friedrichs, Jacob Friedrichs, Jeff Ingersoll, and Jason Ingersoll.

The honorary pallbearers were Randy Griswold, Lyndon Friedrichs, Dale Richardson, Dennis Richardson, David Richardson, and Ron Holle.

Burial followed in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Scott was born on March 1, 1961, in Marysville, to Charles "Charlie" and Delores "Dee" (Polson) Griswold. In 1961, he was baptized and then in 1977 he was confirmed at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Marysville. In 1979, he graduated from Marysville High School, a milestone he celebrated in a memorable fashion: after beginning work at Georgia-Pacific, he requested a vacation day on just his third day of work so he could attend his graduation.

He lived his life anchored in community, family, and the familiar fields of his hometown. He built an accomplished career at Georgia-Pacific, north of Blue Rapids, Kansas, working as a machine operator. He spent 47 years there, recently retiring in February of 2026. Alongside his career, Scott was also a farmer. Over the years, he raised hogs, and sheep, before later focusing on cattle and row crops.

On March 6, 1982, Scott married Sherilyn Friedrichs at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Together, they built a loving marriage and a life centered around family. They were blessed with 3 children, Lindsey, Heath, and Alissa.

Scott's commitment to family was unwavering. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather—best known as "Papa," brother, and friend.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, camping, and home remodel projects, taking pride in creating things with his own hands. He also enjoyed country cruising or as Scott would say-just out “toodlin”.

Scott’s evenings were often spent with find-a-word books. He relished playing games like Rummy Royal with his family and he stayed faithful to his favorite teams—the Kansas City Chiefs and the Royals. Scott also enjoyed playing men’s slow pitch for Nordhus Motors in his younger years. A special note in remembering Scott: he always had to have Sherilyn sew a pocket onto his t-shirts.

Survivors include his wife, Sherilyn; children, Lindsey (Bill) Elder, of Marysville, Heath (Dolly) Griswold, of Marysville, and Alissa (Mike) Christener, of Frankfort, KS; grandchildren, Gavin Charles Elder, Grady Michael Christener, Caliber Scott Christener and Matayah Scott Griswold; brother, Doug (Jacque) Griswold; brothers-in-law, Greg Ingersoll, Clair (Barb) Friedrichs, Lyle (Marilyn) Friedrichs, Lyndon (Deb) Friedrichs; sisters-in-law, Susan Friedrichs; and Eva (Darrell) Cook; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Charles “Charlie” and Delores “Dee” Griswold; sister, Cindy Ingersoll; brother-in-law, Maurice Friedrichs; and parents-in-law, Leonard and Elda Friedrichs.

A memorial fund has been established to Immanuel Lutheran (Hermansberg) School Museum or the Marysville Union Pacific Depot Preservation Society. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
