Selma Anna Maria Crome, 100, of Bremen, KS, died December 13, 2021, at the Hanover Long Term Care. Visitation was Wednesday, December 15, from 1 to 8 p.m., at the Hanover Mortuary. The family received friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 16, at Immanuel (Hermansberg) Lutheran Church, northeast of Bremen. Rev. Aaron T. Fenker, Sr., officiated. Kathy Pralle played the organ while the congregation sang “Onward, Christian Soldiers,” “For Me to Live is Jesus,” “Silent Night” and “I Know that My Redeemer Lives.” The pallbearers were Todd Crome, Scott Crome, Joey Crome, Jason Crome, Chad Crome, Joel Force, Aaron Oehmke and Adam Slupianek. Burial was in the church cemetery. Selma was born April 18, 1921, near Bremen, to Fred and Alwine (Riggert) Gleue. She attended Bremen school and graduated high school from LeRoy, KS, in 1940. On November 29, 1943, she was united in marriage to Edgar “Dick” Crome at Immanuel Lutheran (Hermansberg) parsonage. They lived near Bremen their entire lives after Dick was honorably discharged from the Army. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, walking and riding a bicycle. She was always working and was known for her baking, especially homemade cookies. Peppernuts at Christmas time were a family favorite. She enjoyed her family and spending Christmas Eve with the whole family. Selma spent her evenings embroidering or playing solitaire. Selma was active in Ladies Aide and the choir. She was known for her straight forwardness and spunky personality. Along with raising her four boys, she always found time to attend their activities. Selma usually ended her conversations with Adios. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edgar “Dick” Crome; son, Kirk Crome; sister, LuElla Fischer; five brothers, Helmuth, Fred, Richard, Elmer and Erwin Gleue; and great grandson, Eddie Force. Survivors include her sons, Gary (Linda) Crome, Bremen, Wayne (Nancy) Crome, Hanover, and Mark (Beverly) Crome, Bremen; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Crome, Washington; ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
