Shirley was born July 12, 1931, in Wymore, Nebraska, the daughter of Leonard Edward and Julia Evelyn (Toner) Yost. She graduated from Wymore High School and on May 6, 1950, was united in marriage to Howard Frazier in Wymore. The couple had three daughters: Sue, Joy, and Kay.

The family later made their home in Marysville, where Shirley worked at numerous businesses throughout her life, including J.C. Penney, Montgomery Ward, Brown’s Clothing Store, Gibson’s, City Sewing, T&C Café, and Hardee’s. She also owned and operated a liquor store in Marysville and worked alongside her daughter, Kay, at Gear Up and Kay’s Kut N Kurl.

Shirley enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Branson to attend shows. She also loved shopping and going dancing on Saturday evenings. More than anything, Shirley loved her family. She cherished spending time with her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and found her greatest joy in being surrounded by those she loved. During the 1960s, she helped establish special education classes in the Marysville public schools.

She was a member of the First Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard, on January 19, 2018; and a grandson, Jason Butler, on September 27, 2017.

Survivors include her daughters, Sue Frazier, Joy (Steve) Butler, and Kay (Steve) Ferrell, all of Marysville; four grandchildren, Josh (Torey) Butler of Marysville, David (Christine) Ferrell of Phoenix, Arizona, Angela (Jacob) Smith of Home City, and Jenni (Colby) Heinen of Blue Rapids; ten great-grandchildren, Jacy Butler and Emily Pacha; Trenton and Alissa Butler, and Alex Covey; Taybor, McKartnee, and Zayne Smith; Julia and Ryder Heinen; and two great-great-grandchildren, Aurora Watson, and Colter Massey.

A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be made in care of Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, Kansas 66508.
