Steven M. Koppes, 70, of Marysville, Kansas, passed away on February 15, 2026, at his home.
Visitation was held on Monday, February 23, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary, with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services were scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, at The Crossing Church in Marysville. Richard Mullen officiated. Hymns included "How Great Thou Art", "I Will Rise", and "Amazing Grace."
The pallbearers were Matt Claeys, Jess Schoenberger, Tony Behrens, Ron Loges, Kevin Morris, and Patrick Morris.
Burial followed at Deer Creek Cemetery, north of Marysville.
Steven was born April 15, 1955, in Beatrice, NE, to Edmund and Octivia Koppes. In 1973, he graduated from Marysville High School.
He was united in marriage to Peggy Barton on October 5, 1984, in Lincoln, NE. Steven worked as a carpenter with his brother and farmed. He liked studying the history of firearms and was a member of the NRA. He played the guitar and enjoyed hanging out with friends and family. Steven could meet and befriend many people with his knack to make conversations and loved to joke around.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and an infant brother, Anthony Koppes.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy; son, Kevin Morris, Blue Springs, NE; brother, John Koppes, Marysville; sister, Mary Schreiner, Lincoln, NE; four grandchildren, Patrick Morris, Glinda Morris, Serenity Smith and Kyla Morris; four great-grandchildren, Roman Smith, Henry Smith, Hazel Smith and Aurora Morris; and niece and nephew, Michelle Schreiner and Chris (Courtney) Schreiner.
A memorial fund has been established to Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
