Thomas Jacob Massie, age 77, of Vermillion, Kansas, died Monday, October 19, 2026, at his home.
Services are pending with Padden Funeral Chapel.
Tom was born September 20, 1949, in Barrett, Kansas, the son of James and Bobbie (Partridge) Massie.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1971, serving with Fighter Squadron VF-151 aboard the USS Midway.
Tom was previously married to Jennie Kinslow. From this marriage, he welcomed his son, Joel, and stepdaughter, Chrissy Kinslow. They later divorced. On July 1, 1989, he married Sheryl Hora. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Tommie, and shared 29 years of marriage before Sheryl's death in December 2018.
Tom worked for the railroad for many years. He was an avid car enthusiast and had a lifelong appreciation for automobiles. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially floating down the river searching for rocks. Music was another important part of his life, and he loved dancing, singing and playing the harmonica.
Tom also had a creative side and was rarely without something to draw on. He enjoyed sketching and doodling on just about anything he could find. He was especially known for the unique characters he created, which became a recognizable part of his artwork and personality.
Tom enjoyed life's simple pleasures and had a wide variety of interests. Whether he was talking about cars, sharing his artwork, listening to music or spending time with family, he left those around him with many memories to cherish.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sheryl; his parents; and sister, Martha Ross.
Survivors include his son, Joel (Erika) Massie; daughter, Tommie (Brandon) Feldkamp; stepdaughter, Chrissy Kinslow; grandchildren, Ravon (Logan) Martin, Clara Feldkamp, Edward Feldkamp and Katherine Feldkamp; and a great-granddaughter expected in December. He is also survived by his siblings, Barbra (John) Mercer, Jim (Pat) Massie and Frances Schreiner; along with many extended family members.
Tom will be remembered for his creativity, love of music and automobiles, and the many stories and memories he leaves behind. His unique personality and the little things that made him who he was will be fondly remembered by his family and friends.
A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel, C/o Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508
