Treyton Maurice Hartsook

Treyton Maurice Hartsook, 18, of Olathe, Kansas, tragically lost his life while traveling with his family through the Oklahoma Panhandle on their way to California to celebrate Christmas with extended family. Their journey was suddenly and heartbreakingly interrupted when the vehicle they were traveling in was struck from behind by another vehicle, resulting in a devastating accident.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, at Radiant Church, 12140 West 135th Street, Overland Park, Kansas. Visitation began one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.

Services were Livestreamed on Kinsley Mortuary's Facebook page.

The pallbearers were Mylo Ramirez, Zavier Tillman, Ashton Smith, William Jones, Logan Auten, and Hunter Bray.

Burial followed at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, 9501 West 159th Street, Overland Park.

Treyton was born on September 14, 2007, in Merriam, Kansas, to Amber M. Hartsook and Galen M. O’Baner. He attended Countryside and Woodland Elementary Schools for his early education, Santa Fe Trail Middle School and Pioneer Trail Middle School for grades six through eight, and Olathe South High School, where he was a senior eagerly looking forward to graduating with his classmates in May 2026.

At just three years old, he began participating in sports. During his childhood, he played in a variety of recreational sports including basketball, soccer, and baseball. He played basketball in middle school and baseball at Olathe South High School. Most recently, he enjoyed playing recreational basketball with his friends, often drawing up game-winning plays. As a pitcher for Team KC, Treyton was known for his nasty slider and showing up in clutch moments. He took pride in picking runners off at first base and stealing bases whenever he had the chance.

Above all else, Treyton loved spending time with his friends and family. He never missed a chance to show up for special occasions—especially if they involved food, gifts, and games. For his birthday each year, he looked forward to choosing his cake and dinner, which usually included a drive across town to get cheeseburgers from his favorite burger joint, Tay’s, followed by a fun evening. Some of his most cherished memories were attending a Kansas City Royals game when his Great Uncle Lee caught a foul ball and gave it to him and golfing next to the ocean with his Uncle Mark for his 17th birthday. Treyton enjoyed celebrations so much that he suggested creating a special holiday to commemorate kids. This became known as “Kids Day,” a tradition celebrated at the start of each summer. One year he received Beck, his beloved dog, as a gift.

Treyton lived an adventurous life filled with fun and passion. When he found an interest, he wanted to become an expert in it. He enjoyed spending his time listening to music in his room while building the best teams in video games and fantasy football, eating fast food, fishing, riding roller coasters, hitting pitches from his dad at the batting cages, riding Rangers in search of Santa or Lily Pond (both which were never found!), jumping sand dunes, playing organized and backyard sports, poker nights with the guys, golfing with friends, and vacationing.

Treyton was involved in the youth group at Nexus Church, where he enjoyed worshipping and learning how to live a Jesus-centered life alongside his friends. He knew and loved Jesus and would call upon Him in times of need. Treyton would commend himself to God each time he would step into the batters box. He kept Bible verses displayed in his room, prayed for those he loved, and used social media to share both his passion for baseball and the promise of salvation.

He was preceded in death by his great-great-grandparents, Dorothy Ensley, and Daniel and Helen Hartsook; great-grandparents, Gilbert and Lillian Wassenberg, Norman Burkhead, and Roy and Judy Hartsook; and his great-uncle, Dennis Sanders.

Survivors include his mother, Amber M. Hartsook (Joshua Olvera) of Olathe, Kansas; his father, Galen M. O’Baner of Overland Park, Kansas; siblings, Jayleen Olvera (fiancé Joshua W.), Israel Olvera, and Audrey Olvera, all of Olathe, Kansas; grandparents, Keith and Lisa Hartsook of Herkimer, Kansas, and Johnetta Sanders of Overland Park, Kansas; great-grandmother, Jane Burkhead of Marysville, Kansas; aunt and uncle, Mark and Lauren Hartsook; first cousins, Riley and Jett Hartsook, all of Clyde, Kansas; great-aunts and uncles, Dave (Chris) Hartsook of Waterville, Kansas, Michael Bonewitz of Liberty, Missouri, Deb (Keith) Vacha of Marysville, Kansas, Betty Johnson of Topeka, Kansas, Larry (Rhonda) Wassenberg of Home, Kansas, Mary (Dave) Zutterman of Marysville, Kansas, Lee (Ann) Wassenberg of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Lynn (Tracy) Wassenberg of Home, Kansas; great-great-uncle and aunt, Max (Gerry Ann) Hartsook of Topeka, Kansas; along with many step-family members, cousins and  close friends.
