Treyton Maurice Hartsook, 18, of Olathe, Kansas, tragically lost his life while traveling with his family through the Oklahoma panhandle en route to California to celebrate Christmas with extended family. Their journey was suddenly and heartbreakingly interrupted when their rented van was struck from behind by another vehicle, resulting in a devastating accident.
Treyton is believed to have passed away instantly. Traveling with him at the time were his mother, Amber Hartsook; stepfather, Joshua Olvera; and step-siblings, Jayleen, Israel, and Audrey. All were transported to a hospital in Boise City, Oklahoma, for treatment. Due to the severity of their injuries, Treyton’s mother and step-siblings were later transferred to a medical facility in Amarillo, Texas. While all other family members survived, each sustained injuries of varying degrees which are expected to have lasting effects.
Arrangements for Treyton’s funeral and burial services will be announced at a later date.
Treyton was born on September 14, 2007, in Merriam, Kansas, to Amber M. Hartsook and Galen M. O’Baner. A senior in high school, he was eagerly looking forward to graduating with his classmates in May 2026. Treyton had a deep love for baseball. He dreamed of continuing his education and being part of the game beyond high school.
He is survived by his mother, Amber M. Hartsook (Joshua Olvera) of Olathe, Kansas; his father, Galen M. O’Baner of Overland Park, Kansas; step-siblings, Jayleen Olvera (fiance' Joshua W), Israel Olvera, and Audrey Olvera, all of Overland Park; grandparents, Keith and Lisa Hartsook of Herkimer, Kansas, and Johnetta Sanders of Overland Park; great-grandmother, Jane Burkhead of Marysville, Kansas; aunt and uncle, Mark and Lauren Hartsook; first cousins, Riley and Jett Hartsook, all of Clyde, Kansas; and great aunts and uncles, Dave (Chris) Hartsook of Waterville, Kansas, Deb (Keith) Vacha of Marysville, Betty Johnson of Topeka, Kansas, Larry and Rhonda Wassenberg of Home, Kansas, Mary and Dave Zutterman of Marysville, Lee and Ann Wassenberg of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Lynn and Tracy Wassenberg of Home; great-great aunt and uncle, Max (Gerry Ann) Hartsook of Topeka, Kansas; many step-family members and close friends.
