Velma J. Pollman, 94, of Marysville, died August 5, 2024, at the Frankfort Community Care Home.
Visitation was on Thursday, August 8, from 1-9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m.
A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 9 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Pastor Jay Williamson officiated. Angela Erickson played the organ and Brian Fragel was the vocalist. Music included "Amazing Grace", "How Great Thou Art" and "When Peace Like A River."
Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery.
Velma was born on June 10, 1930, to Charles and Adah (Shrout) Uphold in Star City, West Virginia. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1949. On June 10, 1950, she was married to Earl Harries. They were blessed with a son, John Henry Harries and three daughters, Carol, Susan and Brenda. They later divorced. On July 9, 1993, Velma was united in marriage to Alfred Pollman. Through this marriage, she gained another son and daughter, Jim and Joy.
Velma worked at many establishments over the years including, Ben Franklin, JCPenney, AR-EX, Maxwell Shoes and Ackerman Jewelry. She was also a Pharmacy Associate at Walmart for 27 years before retiring in 2017.
In her free time, Velma enjoyed dancing, playing card games such as Pinochle and Pitch and also liked to go bowling. She was also a leader for the Girl Scouts and liked to sew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; infant son, John Henry Harries; parents; siblings, Russell, Virgil, Milbert, Edna Ivan, and Theodore.
Survivors include her children, Carol (Donald) Gentry, Simpson, KS, Susan Harries, Grangeville, ID, and Brenda (Frank) Staggenborg, Marysville; stepchildren, Jim Pollman, Houston, TX, and Joy Gerlitz, Vancouver, WA; grandchildren, Nathan (Amber) Gentry, Bryan (Alicea) Gentry, Adam (Shawna) Staggenborg and Lana (Bryan) Pekarek; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established to the Alzheimer's Association. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
