Vern Wilke Tjaden, 89, Marysville, died Monday, May 25, 2020 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation was Friday, May 29 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. A private funeral service was at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 30, at Immanuel State Line Lutheran Church, north of Marysville. Rev. Suzanne How officiated. Music included “Amazing Grace”, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, “I Surrender All”, “Alleluia” and “Lebt Wohl”. The pallbearers were Sean Eichelberger, Joey Devine, Jerry Koch, Damian Deters and Travis Roudybush. The honorary pallbearers Philip Roberts, Justin Eichelberger, Andrew Regan, Delmar Tjaden, Bret Perrin, Jeremy Geer, Hunter Geer, Roger Pollman, Keith Klover, Byron Thoreson and Marshall Melcher. Burial was in the church cemetery. Vern was born November 19, 1930 at Lone Elm, KS to Andrew and Tena (Wiemers) Tjaden. He attended Blue Valley School and served six years in the National Guard. Vern was a lifelong farmer and stockman. On October 5, 1952, he married Leona Duensing at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three daughters and a son. He was a member of Immanuel Stateline Lutheran Church, sang in the church choir, served on the church council and cemetery board and was a board member for the Herkimer Coop. In his youth, he was a baseball player for Lone Elm. He and Leona enjoyed square dancing with the Crosstrailers Square Dance Club and polka dancing. He enjoyed his family and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Leona in 2015; five brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law. Survivors include children, Marlys Roberts, Dennis (Jeanne) Tjaden, Marjean (Brad) Eichelberger, all of Marysville, and Lynette Payne, Lincoln, NE; brother, Delmar (Janice) Tjaden, Marysville; sister, Nelda Ewald, Port Orange, FL; sisters-in-law, Arlene Duensing, Marcine Duensing and Verneda Gerdes; and ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
