Verna J. Gibson, 88, of Marietta, KS, died April 18, 2023, at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation was Friday, April 21, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 22, at Kinsley Mortuary. The officiant was Gary Phillips. The musicians were Theresa Knabe and John Knabe, and the music played was "Prayer of St. Francis" and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were Jared Malcolm, Jake Malcolm, Owen Malcolm, Jerome Nietfeld, Art Lindeen and Scott Lindeen. Burial was in the Deer Creek Cemetery, north of Marysville. Verna was born on June 20, 1934, in rural Barnes, KS, to Lee and Sophia (Boda) Gnagy. She graduated from school in Barnes. On November 21, 1954, she was united in marriage to Harold Gibson. To this union they were blessed with a daughter, Carla. Verna worked at the Nietfeld Hatchery and was a homemaker most of her life. Some things that she enjoyed doing were quilting, sewing, gardening, canning, cooking and baking. Preceding her in death is her husband; parents; sisters, Verla Lindeen and Myrtle Dettmer; brothers, Walter Gnagy and Noel Gnagy; and son-in-law, Roger Malcom. She is survived by her daughter, Carla Malcom; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later.
