Verne Ray “Sonny” Cothran, 80, Marysville, died Sunday April 7, 2024, at the Hanover Hospital in Hanover, KS.
A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27 at the Marysville Berean Church. Pastor Joel Barber officiated.
Military Honors followed.
Burial was held in Prospect Hill Cemetery near Blue Rapids.
He was born on June 27, 1943, in Albany CA to Jim and Willie “Marie” (Wilson) Gilmore. He attended school in Stockton, CA and served in the U.S. Army.
On June 29, 1968, he was united in marriage to Regina Wisecarver in Virginia City, NV. To this union a daughter, Heather, was born.
Sonny worked for a tire company fixing everything from car tires to going to farm fields to fix tractor and equipment tires. After moving to Kansas, Sonny worked at Titan Trailer until his retirement.
He enjoyed fishing off the pier in Santa Cruz, CA and watching Disney movies with his grandchildren. Sonny never knew a stranger. He would do anything he could to help anyone and will always be remembered for his jokes and his kindhearted soul.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters Dorothy Heggen and Alta Bouscal.
Survivors include his daughter, Heather (Billy) Bogdan, Marysville; four grandchildren, Alexander, Denton, Payton and Kara Bogdan; and his significant other, Kandy Ingram.
