March 7, 1936 — February 17, 2022

Vernon W. Nieman, 85, Hanover, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation was Friday, February 25, from Noon to 8 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary. The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover. Rev. Elvin Crosby officiated. Janet Fritschi played the organ. Music included "In the Garden," "How Great Thou Art" and "Here I Am Lord." The honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren, Shannon Nieman, Brock Nieman, Rodney Nieman, Chad Nieman, Jessica Berroteran, Christopher Nieman, Madeline Nieman, Rory Nieman and Cody Nieman. Private burial was in the Hanover City Cemetery. Vernon was born on March 7, 1936 in Hanover to William and Lucinda (Rettig) Nieman. In 1953, he graduated from Hanover High School and went on to graduate from Brown Mackie College in Salina. He served in the USAF from 1955 to 1958. On May 25, 1957, he married Ila Mae Koch at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover. Vernon worked as a Loan Officer at the Community State Bank in Hanover for over thirty years. He was a member and past treasurer of the American Legion Post 306 and past president and board member of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce. Vernon was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and served as council member and past council president. He liked to sing loud and proud at church, especially the Lord’s Prayer. A very proud father and grandfather, Vernon loved to attend his children and grandchildren's concerts, sporting events and any other activities they were involved in. He taught his sons to hunt, fish and play golf (some better than others). Vernon enjoyed camping at the river with his grandchildren and maintained a large garden for many years, always trying to outsmart the various animals in the corn patch. Vernon was a regular member of the downtown coffee drinker/dice roller/card playing club. He always enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Please remember Vernon as a caring, fun loving, husband, father and grandfather. A great source of personal and career advice to his sons and grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; In-laws Emil and Anna Koch(Hinrichs) and Fred Hinrichs; sister-in-law, Jean Chambers; brother-in-law, Marvin Rippe; nephew Scott Rippe., and step great-grandson Tyler Courtois. Survivors include his wife Ila Mae; sons, Daniel (Mary) Nieman, Bella Vista, AR, Michael (Kathy) Nieman, McPherson, Gregory (Wendy) Nieman, Olathe and Charles (Bobbi) Nieman, Hanover; sisters, Vernita Rippe, Lanham, Marlene (Marvin) Bures, Odell, NE and LaDonna (Guy) Shalla, Fairbury, NE; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great grandchildren, eleven step great-grandchildren, and one step great-great grandchild. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
