Virginia Jenkins, 88, of Blue Rapids, KS, died February 29, 2024, at the Frankfort Community Care Home.

A visitation was held Thursday, March 7, from noon to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 8, at United Presbyterian Church Faith Hall in Blue Rapids.

Burial followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids.

Virginia was born on June 16, 1935, at Marysville to John and Marjorie (McCoy) Carlson.  She attended school in Irving and graduated in 1953.  On June 12, 1955, she married Charles Jenkins at Irving.  Together, they were blessed with three children.  Virginia worked for Southwestern Bell in Topeka, KS, for a couple of years before moving back to Blue Rapids where she raised her children and was a stay-at-home mother for a short time.  After, she began working at the Blue Rapids Medical Clinic as a receptionist.  When she retired from the clinic in 2000, Virginia and her sister began cleaning homes.

As a form of entertainment, Virginia enjoyed watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers, watching car races, horse races and playing cards.  She enjoyed cleaning her own home, and it never failed she would be up early on Saturday morning cleaning the house so she and Charles could go out that night.  Her grandchildren kept her very busy, whether it was taking them to the park or having them at her house.  They were the light of her life, especially after Charles’ passing on September 5, 1994.

Virginia was a member of the Presbyterian Church, was an active Irving alumnus and was a part of a bridge club.

Preceding her in death is her husband, Charles; parents; and brothers, Richard Carlson, Robert Carlson, John Carlson, Gary Carlson and Steven Carlson.

Survivors include her children, Lori (Richard) Ham, Frankfort, Charles “Chuck” Jenkins, Blue Rapids, and Dixie (Mike) Warders, Manhattan, KS; grandchildren, Sarah (Justin) Fritzson, Andrew (Haley) Ham, Sheree (Kenny)  Weaver, Levi Jenkins, Matthew Smith and Gary Warders; great-grandchildren, Braylee Fritzson, Dayton Ham, Teagen Ham, Hunter Weaver, Caden Weaver and Chase Weaver; sisters, Sandi Miller and Carol Bigham; along with many nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund has been established to Frankfort Community Care Home.  Contributions may be sent in the care of Kinsley Mortuary.
