Wallace "Duff" L. Libby

Wallace L. “Duff” Libby, Jr., 86, Marysville, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the Nebraska Heart Institute, Lincoln, Neb.   Visitation was Sunday, July 15, from noon until 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville.  The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.   A rosary service was held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 16 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville.   Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2 p.m., Monday at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church.  Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated.  Musicians were Dolores Bruna and Wayne Kruse.  Music included "Here I Am Lord," "Servant Song," "On Eagles Wings," "Song of Farewell" and "You Are Mine." Pallbearers were Sean Mulhern, Mike Mulhern, Russ Holle, Bob Holle, Reese Holle, Mark Howell and James Borgerding.  Honorary pallbearers were Bill Bednar, Bob Nork, Bob Welch, Bob Shipman, Ed Copeland and Gary Blocker.  Burial was in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery.Duff was born November 25, 1931, at Marysville to Wallace L. and Gladys (Rakestraw) Libby. In 1949, he graduated from Marysville High School. On September 3, 1950, he married Phyllis Blocker at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville.On January 17, 1951, Duff entered the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Adak Island, Alaska. After his discharge he returned to Marysville and worked with his father for one year. Duff started as a clerk-typist with Marysville Mutual Insurance Company and advanced to become President of the company. He retired in July 1992.He served as President of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, was a proud member of the Shriners organization for over forty years and was a member of the Oriental Band. Duff and Phyllis enjoyed camping, dancing and traveling during their marriage. They would have been married 68 years in September.Duff was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Corky Tidwell and Pat Nork; and brothers-in-law, Bob Potter and Earl Tidwell.Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; daughters, Kim (Pat) Mulhern, Sierra Vista, Ariz., Dana (Cork) Holle, Herkimer, Penny (Joe) Howell and Melissa (Jim) Borgerding, all of Marysville; sister, Bunny Potter; brothers-in-law, Gary (Dora) Blocker and Bob Nork; and ten grandchildren, Sean Mulhern, Mike Mulhern, Russ Holle, Bob Holle, Reese Holle, Meredith Bergmann, Mark Howell, James Borgerding, Jill Borgerding and Jodee Borgerding; nine great-grandchildren, Rohan Mulhern, Emilyn Holle, Ashna Mulhern, Miriam Holle, Ravi Mulhern, Saoirse and Selah Mulhern, Allan Bergmann and Wrigley Howell, due in October; and several nieces and nephews.A memorial fund is established to the St. Gregory’s Catholic School.  Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
